Hurricane Irene Damage Report
Due to the severe flooding caused by Hurricane Irene, the New Milford Swim Club sustained flooding on the grounds and in the pump houses, bathhouse and office. Our managers and staff successfully completed the cleanup of the facilities and secured portions of the club with makeshift fencing. The pump motors were removed for servicing but their condition is uncertain at this time.
If the pumps can be repaired, they are scheduled to be reinstalled by the week’s end, but that gives us no time to perform the mandatory preparation and testing outlined by the State Department of Health and Senior Services. As the chemical systems were off- line for several days, the pools need to be chlorinated for at least 36 hours and then a microbiological water test has to be done, which needs 48 hours to complete, reopening the pools. In addition, there are other soil remediation guidelines which are being promulgated by the State, which we will have to undertake once we get the actual guidelines..
Therefore, we regret the club will not reopen for the remainder of the 2011 summer season. We apologize for the inconvenience to our members who like us were looking forward to spending the end of summer at the pool. Our members’ safety is our priority and we look forward to seeing you during the off season and await the 2012 summer season with you.
